Description

The Fuji Transfer Company located at 1640 Post Street. The company specialized in sending items to and from Japan. Next door was the Uoki Fish Market that was the oldest store in Japantown and was started by Kitaichi Sakai in 1906 after the earthquake. The original location was on Geary Street but in 1925 it moved to the location on Post Street. During the redevelopment of Japantown in the 1960s the Fuji Company building was demolished and now currently the spot is occupied by the Yakini Korean BBQ restaurant. Next door the Uoki Market closed down in 2012 after being in business for over a hundred years when third generation owner Robert Sakai retired. Currently the space is occupied by the Uoki Apartments.
