Mission Statement

The mission of Nihonmachi: The History of Northern California Japantown's Digital Exhibit  is to digitally preserve and provide access of materials related to the history of Japantowns in Northern California.

The Early Development of Japantowns to the Redevelopment of the 1950s and 60s

The Nihonmachi Exhibit was created to develop a source for the history of Japantowns and the Japanese-American communities within Northern California. Initially this project started out as an Exhibit on Sacramento's Japantown but has since expanded to include other Japantowns and will seek to include more in the future.
