Description
The Aki Hotel was located at 1651 Post Street and was run by the Ichiro Kataoka and his wife. Before the war the hotel was the unofficial home for the Japanese Consulate. Because of this and the fact that Ichiro was a leader of the Japanese community on December 7th 1941 the FBI raided the hotel and arrested Ichiro and held everyone that was at the hotel for questioning. The arrest of Ichiro was reported on the front page of the San Francisco Chronicle the next day. After the war the Kataoka's continued to run it until 1959 when the hotel was torn down and replaced with the 16 story Miyako Hotel that is still in operation.
