Japantown, San Jose, Wenzhou Fish Noodles & More, 625 North 6th Street, Ken Ying Low building, 2017

Description

The Ken Ying Low Building was constructed sometime between 1890 and 1905. The Ken Ying Low restaurant was formerly a part of Heinlenville until 1915 when Mr. Ng purchased the building and moved his restaurant there. The cantilevered balcony was added later by the Nishiura Brothers at the request of Mr. Ng who had owned a previous restaurant with a similar feature. The restaurant was run by the Ng family for over fifty years and sometime during the 1970s closed its door. For a short time a Filipino Restaurant took over the spot but in 1981 the Cuban Restaurant opened its doors and operated for over thirty years before closing down. Currently the building houses the Wenzhou Fish Noodles & More Restaurant.
