Description
Ed Morihiro opened this service station which was the first in Japantown in 1932 with the help of his brother-in-law Takeo Tanizawa who built a grocery store next door. Ed ran the station until the internment of Japanese Americans during World War II. After the war George and William Yasukawa took over running the station and renamed it Bill's Service Station. The brothers ran the station until 1953 when George Hanada took over and renamed it to George's Service Station. George ran the station for over forty years until 1993 when he sold it to Fred Kido. The station now called San Jose Autoworks can still be found on the corner of North 4th Street and Jackson Street and while it no longer sells gasoline it still continues to offer automotive services to the community after being in operation for over eighty years.
