Description
The Memorial Day Fire destroyed over 110 Chinese and Japanese homes and businesses leaving over 1,500 people homeless and causing over 750,000 dollars in damages. Fortunately no one died from the fire but a few people did suffer from severe burns.Those left without anywhere to stay were given shelter at the local schools and other public institutions. This image shows Main Street looking east towards the Canneries in the far background.
