Isleton Japanese Language School, 1925

Unlike San Francisco or Sacramento Japanese students along with Chinese and Fillipino in Isleton were segregated and were forced to attend the Oriental School that was originally located at 105 2nd Street where currently Dejack's County Store is located today. After a fire destroyed the China and Japantown in 1915 the school was moved to E and Main Street where it remained until the fire in 1926 burned it down along with the rest of the China and Japantown. The school then was moved to the corner of Union and O Streets. The oriental school remained in use until 1942 when the entire Japanese population were forced to leave for the internment camps. Upon their return to Isleton Japanese students were allowed to attend the Isleton Union School. Like other Japantowns Isleton had its own Japanese Language School where students would go to after school to learn the language.
